Enjoy an unforgettable and unique experience this coming weekend during Steam and Sleighs at the WW&F Railway.
Ride our Railway’s steam-powered Sheepscot Valley Winter Service trains and enjoy a horse-drawn sleigh (or wagon) ride, a visit to the farm, backcountry cross country skiing, snowshoeing, winter hiking, and more at our station stops along your journey.
Our train will take you to “Top of the Mountain” where it will be met by a horse-drawn sleigh to bring you to SeaLyon Farm, LLC where a plethora of goods will be available for perusal and purchase including lavender products!
At the farm, be sure to purchase a slice or two of Blazing Tomato Pizza for lunch!
Creamed Baking Co. will also be at the farm selling their decadent caramels, baked goods, and S’More’s kits to roast over the bonfire!
Tickets include train fare, sleigh rides, hot beverages & access to skiing, hiking, and snowshoeing trails. (Purchases at SeaLyon Farm, LLC are by individual settlement.)

Trains leave from Sheepscot Station (97 Cross Rd. Alna) to Top of the Mountain Station and return.
At Top of Mountain detrain for horse-drawn sleigh rides (to/from SeaLyon Farm, LLC), self-guided snowshoeing, backcountry X/C, hiking and to explore the work the railway is undertaking on the mountain extension, a .75 mile extension of the railway to a new station adjacent to Midcoast Conservancy‘s beautiful Trout Brook Preserve. For your convenience, a heated railcar and attendant will be on hand to help direct you. There are no facilities at this remote location, (outside of those offered at SeaLyon Farm.) Allocate 90 minutes of layover time to ride the sleigh, visit the farm, and enjoy the outdoor activities.
Trains for Steam and Sleighs at the Top of the Mountain leave Sheepscot Station (97 Cross Road, Alna) at 10:30 AM, 12 noon, and 1:30 PM. (An additional 3:00 PM train will pick up guests; visitors are welcome for a train ride only at 3:00 PM.)
Trains depart Top of the Mountain for the return back to Sheepscot Station at 11:00, 12:30, 2:00, and 3:30.
Tickets are valid for round trip passage to and from Sheepscot Station and include access to all of the day’s activities. Should you desire a longer layover at Top of the Mountain, you may return on any subsequent train. Please order tickets in advance via the link provided.
Steam and Sleighs will be held Snow or Shine. In the event of poor driving or unsuitable conditions for the horses, the event will be canceled (announced via Facebook and email) with tickets refunded. Steam train rides will still occur on schedule. Come dressed prepared for the weather. If you care to engage in outdoor activities, please bring your own skis, snowshoes, or outdoor gear.

Thanks to Saundra and Eric Neperud, owners of the Wiscasset Woods Lodge, and John and Chris Kokas, there will be several great opportunities for members, families and friends to experience Midcoast Maine during our Spring Work Weekend in late April. A detailed itinerary, organized by the Wiscasset Woods Lodge, can be found on their website.
Activities planned by the Lodge include:
Friday, April 24th, 5 p.m.: A Cooking Class with Chef Meghan—Homemade Ravioli. Meghan Olcott, owner of Wiscasset’s Creamed Baking Company, will lead the class. Cost $25 per person. 8 to 12 guests. Reservations and deposits deadline April 1st.
Saturday, April 25th, 10 a.m.: Midcoast Maine Wine Tour. Visit five Midcoast Maine stops, including two wineries and a meadery during this day-long adventure, courtesy of Maine Winery Tours. Cost $165 per person if 9 or less participate; otherwise $135 per person up to 12 people. Reservations and deposits deadline March 27th.
Sunday, April 26th, 9.30 a.m.: Walking Tour of Wiscasset and Castle Tucker. 2020 marks the 200th anniversary of Maine’s statehood. To commemorate, the day will start with a walking tour of downtown Wiscasset by the Red Cloak Lady, followed by a stop for warm drinks and pastries, and then a visit to historic Castle Tucker. Sunday’s tour is designed to end in the early afternoon for folks who have travel plans to return home this last day of Spring Work Weekend. Cost $40 per person. 6 to 15 guests. Reservations and deposits deadline April 10th.
Monday, April 27th, 10 a.m.: Midcoast Maine Beer Tour. The Maine Brew Bus will take participants to three breweries in Brunswick and West Bath, followed by a visit to Reid State Park (weather permitting). Cost $150 per person if 10 to 23 participate; $115 per person if 24 participate. Reservations and deposits deadline March 27th.

Due to the muddy conditions, we will not be able to offer sleigh/wagon rides to SeaLyon Farm, LLC on Saturday February 1st. Moreover, there is limited snow (with none predicted) for winter outdoor activities.
Therefore, we will be offering train rides ONLY (no sleigh rides, winter activities, or farm festivities) at 10:30am and 12:00pm. The train trip will be 50 minutes to “Top of the Mountain” and return. Regular fares apply ($10 adults, $5 children) and can be purchased before the train ride at Sheepscot station – 97 Cross Road, Alna Maine.
Those holding tickets for “Steam And Sleighs” on 2/1 may reschedule for 2/15 or 2/16, or receive a refund.
All trains for “Steam and Sleighs” for Saturday, 1/25 are completely sold out. We look forward to those who have purchased tickets in advance to join us tomorrow.
All trains for “Steam and Sleighs” for Sunday, 1/26 have been CANCELLED. Please message us if you have tickets for this date so that we can reschedule or refund your purchase. (This cancellation is for the safety and well-being of the horse team in the anticipated slushy mud.)

Our Museum tables were quite busy during the 2019 show!
Come visit our Museum tables at the upcoming Railroad Hobby Show January 25th and 26th. The show, sponsored by the Amherst Railway Society, is held at the Eastern States Exposition Fairgrounds in West Springfield, Massachusetts. Please see railroadhobbyshow.com for more information about the show.
This event is one of the largest railroad hobby shows in the United States. Proceeds from the show are used by the Amherst Railway Society to promote interest in railroads, including donations to rail museums, historical societies, restoration projects and scholarship funds. Over the years, the ARS has generously donated to restoration efforts by our Museum.
Our sales table will be in the Young Building, section 78, near the “Heroes and Legends” cafe—in the area popularly known as “narrow gauge corner.” Many items available in our gift shop will be available at the show!

A highlight of this year’s show will be Maine Narrow Gauge’s Monson No. 3 operating outside on 100 feet of track. Monson No. 3 spent this past season on the WW&F in Sheepscot and operated during several of our special events in 2019. The appearance of No. 3 at the show is the result of the combined efforts of MNG, Maine Locomotive & Machine, and the WW&F.

At Alna Center, detrain for horse-drawn sleigh rides and cross country skiing along with hot beverages prepared on the station’s potbelly stove. Outside, warm your hands around the bonfire and participate in a variety of demonstrations. In addition to the heated station, a portable toilet will be stationed here.
At Top of Mountain detrain for snowshoeing, backcountry X/C, hiking and to explore the work the railway is undertaking on our Mountain Extension, a ¾-mile extension of the railway to a new station adjacent to Midcoast Conservancy’s Trout Brook Preserve. For your convenience, a heated caboose and attendant will be on hand to help direct you. There are no additional facilities at this remote location.
“Steam and Sleighs” will be held Saturdays & Sundays, January 25th & 26th and February 15th & 16th, 2020.

Visit the Wiscasset, Waterville & Farmington Railway and help us welcome St. Nicholas (Santa Claus)! Depart from Sheepscot station (97 Cross Road, Alna) where you can enjoy hot chocolate, cider, snacks and exhibits before boarding the train. At Alna Center Station warm yourself around the bonfire and enjoy a horse-drawn sleigh or wagon ride before visiting with the man in red himself! Sing carols on the train! Join us in celebrating and spreading Christmas spirit! Best of all, the visit is free!
Online ticket reservations begin at 8 a.m. November 3rd! Please only reserve the number of tickets tickets you will use. Online tickets are your best way to ensure an experience with limited wait times when you arrive. You must check in at the ticket office 30 minutes before your trains departure time (or your space on the train may be given to another party).
Victorian Christmas will be held December 14th unless unsafe weather conditions result in rescheduling the event for December 21st. If the event is rescheduled, announcements will be made via social media and news outlets. Ticket reservations from from the 14th will be honored at the same time on December 21st.
Parts of Victorian Christmas are outdoors and unheated. Please dress accordingly!
