General parking is available in the large lot just past the station building (on Cross Road) and adjacent to the restrooms. Those needing special assistance are free to park in front of the yellow &#8220;shop&#8221; building adjacent to the boarding platform.<\/p>\n<p><strong>NOTE: 97 Cross Road is on the <em>West<\/em>\u00a0side of Route 218.<\/strong> Some GPSs place it on the <em>East<\/em> side (near the Sheepscot River\/Damariscotta) &#8211; <em>follow Cross road over Route 218 to locate the railway<\/em>.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Unless there are extenuating circumstances, TRAINS LEAVE AT THEIR SCHEDULED DEPARTURE TIME AND CAN NOT BE HELD.<\/strong> If you anticipate a late arrival, please call us at 207-882-4193 and we will advise you of the best options available. <strong>PLEASE ANTICIPATE TRAFFIC CONDITIONS ON ROUTE ONE IN WISCASSET.<\/strong><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2>For Those Not Familiar with Maine&#8230;<\/h2>\n<p><b>Maine<\/b> is the northeast-most state in the US. Boston, Mass. is the nearest large city.\u00a0 I-95 is the only interstate highway going into Maine.\u00a0 Amtrak&#8217;s <i>Downeaster<\/i> train runs between Boston North Station and Brunswick, ME.\u00a0 Some major airlines fly into Portland International Jetport (PWM) and Bangor International Airport (BGR), plus there are many smaller airports that people can fly into, such as Owl&#8217;s Head near Rockland.\u00a0 Greyhound and Concord Trailways have buses into Maine from Boston.\u00a0 There&#8217;s also a bus into Maine from New Brunswick.<\/p>\n<p>Once you get to Maine, your best bet to get around is by car, as local public transportation outside of the larger cities is nearly non-existent.\u00a0 I-95 connects all the major cities of Maine and exits into Canada near Houlton.\u00a0 US Route 1 snakes along the coast between Kittery and Machias, then follows the Canadian border north to Fort Kent.\u00a0 Most public transit is localized to the larger population areas.\u00a0 Concord Trailways does have a coastal route along Rt 1 between Portland and Bangor, with a stop in Wiscasset.<\/p>\n<h2>Where is Alna?<\/h2>\n<p><b>Alna<\/b> is located north of the Midcoast town of Wiscasset.\u00a0 It is approximately 50 miles northeast of Portland, Maine&#8217;s largest city. Other nearby cities are Lewiston (50 miles east), Augusta (30 miles southeast), and Bangor (100 miles southwest).<\/p>\n<h2>Where is the WW&amp;F Railway Museum?<\/h2>\n<p><b>The Museum<\/b> is located at 97 Cross Road, in Alna.\u00a0 Alna&#8217;s major road is State Route 218, traveling north and south through the town.\u00a0 The Museum is located on the southern end of town, on the western side of Rt 218.\u00a0 Alna has 3 village areas and no well-defined town center. Cross Road is approximately 4.5 miles north of Wiscasset and US Route 1.
