How long is the ride?\u00a0 And where does it take you?<\/em><\/h6>\n

The railroad is 3.5 miles long.\u00a0 We don’t have a loop; the train takes you from our Sheepscot<\/em> station headquarters to one of several destinations (depending on the nature of your trip.) For example, the Sheepscot Valley Steam Train<\/a> route covers the entire 3.5 line to Trout Brook<\/em> station. During events held in conjunction with SeaLyon Farm, trains run 2.6 miles to Top of Mountain <\/em>where wagons meet the train to bring passengers to the farm. Events held at Alna Center<\/em> station (such as the Ice Cream Express<\/a> and Music on the Railway Concerts<\/a>) include a 1.5 mile trip on the train.\u00a0 In all cases, trains return back to Sheepscot<\/em>.\u00a0 Check the details for each train\/event for the duration, but most trips last about one to three hours.<\/p>\n

When are you open?<\/em><\/h6>\n

We are open on Saturdays (year round) but not always running public trains. For specific information, please see Hours, Schedules, and Events<\/a>.<\/p>\n

How much does it cost to visit?<\/strong><\/em><\/h6>\n

Admission to the museum, gift shop<\/a>, railyard, etc. is free; reasonably-priced train tickets depend on the event, age, etc.\u00a0 Please see Tickets<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Where is your station in Wiscasset, Waterville or Farmington?<\/strong><\/em><\/h6>\n

We do not (currently) have a station in those locations.\u00a0 The name comes from the original railroad<\/a> which intended to connect Wiscasset to Farmington (via Waterville), but never did.\u00a0 Today, all trains depart from 97 Cross Road, Alna, Maine<\/strong>. Please see our Directions<\/a> page.<\/p>\n

Is your railroad the one that goes to Brunswick and Rockland?<\/strong><\/em><\/h6>\n

No, that’s the standard gauge former Maine Central Rockland Branch, and was\u00a0operated by the\u00a0Maine Eastern Railroad. Passenger service on this branch ended in 2015.<\/p>\n
