Enjoy a winter day at the railway! Bring your snowshoes, cross-country skis, winter hiking gear, etc. and explore the serenity of the Maine outdoors on our secluded field and forest at the \u201cTop of the Mountain\u201d. Trails for snowshoeing will be marked; backcountry x-country skiing will be available along the mountain extension. Or, join the hardy corps of volunteers as they cut trees and burn brush to clear the right-of-way.<\/p>\n

This is a self-guided rugged activity in the woods without facilities or conveniences, so please dress and plan appropriately.<\/strong> A hosted warming hut will be provided at Top of Mountain. Please wear clothing suitable for outdoor adventure or volunteering (which means you don\u2019t mind them getting dirty or damaged).<\/p>\n

Train tickets will be sold at reduced fare: $5.00 for this special one-day-only event!<\/p>\n

Take the train from Sheepscot station (97 Cross Road in Alna) for the ride to the Top of the Mountain 2-1\/2 miles to the north. Trains will leave Sheepscot station approximately every hour from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.<\/p>\n
