{"id":3174,"date":"2020-05-24T15:43:10","date_gmt":"2020-05-24T19:43:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wwfry.org\/?p=3174"},"modified":"2020-05-24T15:48:38","modified_gmt":"2020-05-24T19:48:38","slug":"not-entirely-quiet-times-on-the-sheepcot-valley-narrow-gauge","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wordpress.wwfry.org\/?p=3174","title":{"rendered":"(Not Entirely) Quiet Times on the Sheepcot Valley Narrow Gauge"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/wwfry.org\/?attachment_id=3169\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-3169\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3169\" src=\"https:\/\/wordpress.wwfry.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/bridgeMar19Stewart.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"960\" height=\"709\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wordpress.wwfry.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/bridgeMar19Stewart.jpg 960w, https:\/\/wordpress.wwfry.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/bridgeMar19Stewart-300x222.jpg 300w, https:\/\/wordpress.wwfry.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/bridgeMar19Stewart-768x567.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 960px) 100vw, 960px\" \/><\/a><strong><em>Times are quiet on our Mountain Extension near Trout Brook bridge.<\/em><\/strong><em>\u00a0 We had planned a busy Spring Work Weekend in late April as we prepare for our Mountain Extension\u2019s opening, but the pandemic has delayed that work.\u00a0 That hasn\u2019t meant we had to stop all progress on our Railway.\u00a0 Stewart Rhine photo.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The COVID-19 pandemic has affected nearly all the non-profits, businesses and our other friends in the Sheepscot Valley, not to mention across the rest of Maine, the U.S. and the world.\u00a0 Like our friends, our Railway is no exception.\u00a0 We are currently closed to the public and nearly all our volunteers.\u00a0 We currently plan to open to the public August 8th and to our volunteers sooner, all of course dependent on guidance by the CDC and state of Maine.<\/p>\n<p>That doesn\u2019t mean, however, our progress has completely stopped!<\/p>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><em>Alna Center Pavilion<\/em><\/strong><\/h4>\n<p style=\"text-align: right;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/wwfry.org\/?attachment_id=3170\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-3170\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3170\" src=\"https:\/\/wordpress.wwfry.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/pavilion.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"960\" height=\"654\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wordpress.wwfry.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/pavilion.jpg 960w, https:\/\/wordpress.wwfry.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/pavilion-300x204.jpg 300w, https:\/\/wordpress.wwfry.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/pavilion-768x523.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 960px) 100vw, 960px\" \/><\/a><em>Stewart Rhine photo.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Just before pandemic restrictions hit in mid-March, a small volunteer crew had finished the erection of half of the pavilion at Alna Center, including its roof.\u00a0 Once pandemic restrictions are lifted, we plan to set the footings for the rest of the posts and then erect the rest of the building.<\/p>\n<p>Our pavilion will serve as a nearly all-weather venue at our Alna Center station for special events like our <em>Easter Eggspress<\/em>, Music on the Railway concert series, evening talks, Fall Festival and Victorian Christmas.\u00a0 Our thanks to Bath\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mainemaritimemuseum.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Maine Maritime Museum<\/a>, with provided us the opportunity to repurpose this building they had used to shelter the recent restoration of their schooner <em>Mary E<\/em>.<\/p>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><em>Car Barn Extension<\/em><\/strong><\/h4>\n<p style=\"text-align: right;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/wwfry.org\/?attachment_id=3172\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-3172\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3172\" src=\"https:\/\/wordpress.wwfry.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/IMG_2006.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"900\" height=\"546\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wordpress.wwfry.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/IMG_2006.jpg 900w, https:\/\/wordpress.wwfry.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/IMG_2006-300x182.jpg 300w, https:\/\/wordpress.wwfry.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/IMG_2006-768x466.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px\" \/><\/a><em>Brendan Barry photo.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>When the pandemic hit, we were well along with our Sheepscot Car Barn Extension.\u00a0 In order to secure the building, a small group of local volunteers, following social distancing guidelines, have worked to finish the walls, roof and doors to secure the building.<\/p>\n<p>Portland\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/mainenarrowgauge.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Maine Narrow Gauge Railroad Co. &amp;
